You Want A Different Type
Different types of insulation have different types of benefits, and you may decide that it's time to give your home an upgrade! Most homes have fiberglass installed because it's the cheapest, but it's not the most green-friendly option and it can be extremely agitating if touched. Cellulose is safer in that respect and is made from recycled materials. Spray foam, on the other hand, is a very popular new form of insulation thanks to its ability to provide an airtight seal to the frame, rather than inevitably leave space for air to get out. Even if it's a small amount of air, it still adds up to cost you in energy and money over time, so spray foam can be a great first step towards cutting those costs. Looking into various forms of insulation and the amount your home needs to be properly insulated against the climate of the area is a good idea to get your home as energy efficient as possible! -
It's Grown Too Old
Unfortunately, insulation does not last forever. While the average life span is 80 years, which sounds like a long time, if your house has had the same insulation since it was built, it may already be long overdue for a change. Expired insulation may not sound like a huge concern, but it means that it's heavily degraded and likely slouching out of place, leaving big cold spots for air to escape and running up your energy spending in the process. -
It Is Severely Damaged
It may be time to get it switched out because it's no longer working as it should! If your attic has suffered from a water leak of any kind, the insulation that's there likely absorbed some of it and began to incubate mold. Not only will the material itself be ruined, but it's bound to spread and eat at the rest of your attic as well. Rodents also may have harmed it thanks to tearing it apart to use for nesting, and all the more concerning, can infect it and other parts of the attic with their diseased waste, which is then able to make its way into your household.
